Victoria and Richard Mackenzie-C
Victoria and Richard Mackenzie-C
In the Fall of 2009, world-renown artists, Victoria and Richard Mackenzie-Childs launched their new and only brand, "Emprise," while taking a stance aboard their part-time home and work studio aboard the Yankee ferry boat. This 1907 ferry boat began its life as a luxury steamer in Casco Bay. The 136-foot vessel served the military in World Wars I and II, transported immigrants from Ellis Island, carried visitors to the Statue of Liberty, and shuttled between Providence, R.I. and Block Island for over three decades. Sadly deteriorated by 1990, it was rescued and restored at a Tribeca pier. Now lovingly renovated by Victoria and Richard, the Yankee is the site of the MacKenzie-Childs' famous "Ferry Ball." Several seasons past, Victoria and Richard's left the MacKenzie-Childs brand, which still carries their name. Victoria and Richard have consistently and successfully endeavored to create new environments, generate ideas, and provide sensibilities channeled through their work that showcase a necessary contrast to establishment. Within their former brand of Mackenzie-Childs, examples to serve well are lent by their former landmark flagship store, the beacon of Madison Avenue (a space admired and still living in the imaginations of every New Yorker) and the ideally pastoral artisan farmhouse of Aurora, both of which resounded to the artist in us all. It is only appropriate to Victoria and Richard that they adhere to such philosophy in the launch of Emprise. The meaning of Emprise, a chivalrous pursuit, calls for no less, as they literally have embarked upon the unveiling of a new brand, fresh collections, and the imaginative environment of their new home and studio, the Yankee.
